Cell 7 has to be one of my most anticipated books of the year. The first in a trilogy about a teen girl on death row whose execution will be decided by public phone and internet vote, the premise just completely grabs me. I was excited last weekend to be invited to Kerry’s launch so I could finally buy a copy and have it signed! Kerry held her launch in a beautiful building in the shadow of Lincoln Cathedral, and it was packed with people. I took along my book blogger sister, who’d already started Cell 7 and was loving it. Looking back at my photos, I mostly took snaps of the food — but then it was very good food. (That...
On Thursday, Lauren James’s much-anticipated YA debut The Next Together was released. I interviewed Lauren on the Author Allsorts blog (here), and last night headed to Leamington Spa for her launch party. (Thank you for inviting me, Lauren!) I’ve been excited about The Next Together for a long time. I read it when it was still a Word document, and loved the clever storyline and swoony romance. It’s a real mix of genres, from romance to historical to sci-fi, and uses various forms of media (emails, pie charts, maps etc.) which look amazing in the finished book. The final copy also includes a quote from my original review — my first author...
Welcome to my stop on the YA Shot blog tour! I’m delighted to interview Sangu Mandanna, author of YA sci-fi The Lost Girl, fellow Author Allsort, and YA Shot official author. I’ve read The Lost Girl and loved it (my review), so am excited to have a signed copy to give away! Scroll to the bottom of the interview to enter, and for more information about YA Shot. Eva’s life is not her own. She is a creation, an abomination – an echo. Made by the Weavers as a copy of someone else, she is expected to replace a girl named Amarra, her ‘other’, if she ever died. Eva studies what Amarra does,...
As I’m sure everyone knows, the UK’s second YA Lit Convention opens tomorrow. Last year, I went to both full days, but this year I’m going on the Saturday only — a decision I made ages ago when I realised I’d missed out on all the hotel deals, and am regretting now I’ve seen the fantastic line-up on Friday and Sunday! I would have especially liked to meet Helen Maslin (author of Darkmere) at the Chicken House stand on Friday, and go to the main stage events on horror and dystopia. On the Sunday, the ‘fantasy vs. reality’ event sounds great, as does the ‘author and editor’ workshop with A.J. Grainger and Non Pratt. Regardless,...
If you follow bookish people on twitter, you probably already know it’s UKYA Day! *throws books and confetti* Organised by blogger Lucy Powrie, who’s practically Queen of UKYA because she does so much to support it, it sounds like it’s going to be a really fun day. I blogged a couple of years ago about first realising UKYA was a ‘thing’. At that point I didn’t really own many UKYA books, but now two-thirds of my YA books are by UK authors. That made me have a bit of a think. Because, books aside, I don’t tend to support things just because they’re from the UK. I don’t really care if England wins when it comes to...
