Book Launch: Kerry Drewery’s CELL 7

Cell 7 has to be one of my most anticipated books of the year. The first in a trilogy about a teen girl on death row whose execution will be decided by public phone and internet vote, the premise just completely grabs me. I was excited last weekend to be invited to Kerry’s launch so I could finally buy a copy and have it signed! Kerry held her launch in a beautiful building in the shadow of Lincoln Cathedral, and it was packed with people. I took along my book blogger sister, who’d already started Cell 7 and was loving it. Looking back at my photos, I mostly took snaps of the food — but then it was very good food. (That...

Book Launch: THE NEXT TOGETHER by Lauren James

On Thursday, Lauren James’s much-anticipated YA debut The Next Together was released. I interviewed Lauren on the Author Allsorts blog (here), and last night headed to Leamington Spa for her launch party. (Thank you for inviting me, Lauren!) I’ve been excited about The Next Together for a long time. I read it when it was still a Word document, and loved the clever storyline and swoony romance. It’s a real mix of genres, from romance to historical to sci-fi, and uses various forms of media (emails, pie charts, maps etc.) which look amazing in the finished book. The final copy also includes a quote from my original review — my first author...

UKYA Extravaganza, Birmingham – Come Along!

I’m thrilled to be joining 34 other YA authors on 28th February for the UKYA Extravaganza. It’s going to be an afternoon of bookish fun in Birmingham High Street Waterstones, and I can’t wait. So many fellow authors I want to meet (including a number who aren’t on the official list), and lots of fellow readers and YA fans. Organised by authors Kerry Drewery and Emma Pass, it’ll be a wonderful opportunity to mingle and get books signed. Check out the Goodreads list of Extravaganza authors/books here. Follow @YABirmingham for updates. ** UPDATE – tickets are now sold out (one day after going on sale!)** If you’re lucky enough...

YALC Review

Last weekend was the UK’s first YA Lit Convention, and what an amazing weekend it was! All the things I love that usually exist only in my inner world — stories and writing talk and online friends — manifested in reality for forty-eight hours, and it was a very special thing. I’m not going to try to summarise the various panels and workshops, because a) I didn’t go to that many, and b) other people have already done it so well elsewhere. (I especially like the two posts on Rants of Being a Bitter Northerner, which summarise various events. See them here and here.) Panels, workshops and signings all took place simultaneously, and workshops...

YALC & the Fringe — come say hi!

The UK’s first ever Young Adult Literary Conference is almost here! I’m so very excited to be heading down to London for it at the weekend. The schedule of panels, workshops, and signings looks amazing (take a look here — I personally have no idea how I’ll fit in everything I want to do). It’ll also be so lovely to meet in real life (real life!) lots of authors, bloggers and readers I’ve only met on the internet thus far. If you spot me, please do say hi. Though I’m not attending the actual conference as an Author with a capital A, I’ll be joining other authors at the Fringe on Saturday evening to sign books and hand out...
