Talk & Signing: Sharon Jones & Teri Terry

Last weekend was the Cambridge Literary Festival, and I was excited to see lots of YA and children’s author names I recognised on the programme—Darren Shan, Marcus and Julian Sedgwick, Sarah McIntyre and Philip Reeve….and Sharon Jones and Teri Terry! It’s not often I get to see and/or meet authors without traveling to London, so this was a real treat. I know Sharon well from Twitter and Author Allsorts, and love her YA thrillers Dead Jealous and Dead Silent. As for Teri, I’d been aware of her dystopian Slated trilogy for some time, and the upcoming festival prompted me to finally read the first book. (Which I’m very glad I did. Second...

There were drinks, gourmet popcorn, and super-cool Banished cookies, but really it was just a big opportunity to mingle and celebrate the book. I met YA author James Dawson...

Holly Black & Sarah Rees Brennan Event & Signing

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Holly Black and Sarah Rees Brennan event in London. Between them, these two ladies have released a huge number of books, and though I haven’t read them all I’ve really enjoyed the ones I have. Both write dark YA, and were talking about writing stories with gothic elements, so I simply had to go along. Holly and Sarah started by reading from their books—Holly’s The Coldest Girl in Coldtown and Sarah’s as-yet unreleased Unmade (which is so new, she had to read it from her phone!). They then talked for a while about all things gothic and their inspirations for writing, before taking questions. As...
