Books Read in July

Wow, is July over already? July was the month of YALC (such fun) and re-reading/editing two of my WIPs, both of which I ‘finished’ quite some time ago. (I always think of more to do. Even when I think I’m done, I’ll take a break, then invariably find more improvements to make. Glimpse is the only story I don’t do that with, but only because I can’t anymore — I think I would edit that more too if given the chance!) Anyway… Books read in July.     The Curiosities: A Collection of Stories, by Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton and Brenna Yovanoff — A collection of short stories by three YA authors, who are...

YALC #2

As I’m sure everyone knows, the UK’s second YA Lit Convention opens tomorrow. Last year, I went to both full days, but this year I’m going on the Saturday only — a decision I made ages ago when I realised I’d missed out on all the hotel deals, and am regretting now I’ve seen the fantastic line-up on Friday and Sunday! I would have especially liked to meet Helen Maslin (author of Darkmere) at the Chicken House stand on Friday, and go to the main stage events on horror and dystopia. All the things I love that usually exist only in my inner world — stories and writing talk and online friends — manifested in reality for forty-eight hours, and it was a very special thing. I’m not going to try to summarise the various panels and workshops, because a) I didn’t go to that many, and b) other people have already done it so well elsewhere. (I especially like the two posts on Rants of Being a Bitter Northerner, which summarise various events. See them here and here.) Panels, workshops and signings all took place simultaneously, and workshops...

YALC & the Fringe — come say hi!

The UK’s first ever Young Adult Literary Conference is almost here! I’m so very excited to be heading down to London for it at the weekend. The schedule of panels, workshops, and signings looks amazing (take a look here — I personally have no idea how I’ll fit in everything I want to do). It’ll also be so lovely to meet in real life (real life!) lots of authors, bloggers and readers I’ve only met on the internet thus far. If you spot me, please do say hi. Though I’m not attending the actual conference as an Author with a capital A, I’ll be joining other authors at the Fringe on Saturday evening to sign books and hand out...
